When Life Gives You Oranges

When I decided to move East, I was very adamant that I would do all the things I had planned on doing in Minnesota. I graduated from college in August, with plans to continue to graduate school to study Marriage and Family Therapy. So, I signed up to take the GRE and applied to several universities. About a week before the move, I received an acceptance letter from my top choice school, so I registered for classes and was all ready to make my dreams a reality.

Then, I found myself unfulfilled. My classes were lackluster, I realized that it didn't fit my interests, and I learned that it would be hell to move my license to Minnesota when we move home. So, what now?

Weekend Education

This weekend was full of learning experiences, that frankly could probably be written up as long-wordy posts individually. But, I think I'll just put them all here for now, short & sweet style.

• Hoboken is really into St. Patrick's Day. 

 So into it, in fact, that they created a second one. Saturday was the Lepre-con Pub Crawl. We're still pretty new to the area, so we didn't find out about it until Friday night. So, we didn't participate in the Official crawl, but we did invite some friends over to walk around, people-watch, and go to a bar.

Weekend Update

Its been interesting to readjust to the world of work and school. I finished college in August, and then I was just working part-time, then I was unemployed for a month.... now I dove right back into full-time school and part-time work. Its good to be busy, to be getting out there, but I do sorely miss my free time. So, other than working Friday and Saturday nights, here's what happened this weekend:

North Star in an Eastern Sky got another face lift. I'm still experimenting with different looks and feels for this space. And, I updated the About Me sidebar section and page with pictures! Here's an outtake that actually looks too cool to keep to myself:

My good friend Jenna, from MN, flew to Buenos Aires on Friday and had a 7+ hour layover at the Newark Airport, which is only an hour away from me. So, I hopped on a train and we grabbed some Starbucks at the baggage claim and chatted for a bit. Words can't describe how wonderful it is to see a good friend for the first time in over a month.

On a whim, I made some hot pads. I bought the heat proof lining and was planning to wait until I picked up some different fabric, but I caught inspiration and that was that. Plus, I do love this polka dot fabric that Jenna gifted me years ago.

My mom sent us some girl scout cookies and MAN, I am so glad. The cookies they sell around here have different names: Caramel deLites instead of Samoas, for example. They claim that they taste the same, but I'm not convinced. So I'm grateful to have the real deal.

Late Valentine's in the City

As I mentioned in my last post, Keith and I both had the day off yesterday and used that opportunity to celebrate Valentine's day, since I had school on Thursday evening. We let ourselves have a very low-key day. We slept in then made ourselves a massive breakfast of banana pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. We lounged around for awhile watching Parks and Rec before finally getting ready and leaving the apartment.

Central park holds a soft spot in our hearts. It was one of the first places that we went two years ago when we visited NYC together for spring break. I especially appreciate it now because there's trees and open space, which I so desperately yearn for. We spent a few hours walking around the park, people watching and taking in the sun and pretending that we weren't in a huge city. Once we were chilled to our bones and our feet were sore, we stopped in a McDonald's on our way home to split some fries and a shamrock shake.

When we got home, we caught up with Parks and Rec and made a taco salad for dinner. Low-key and easy, our day, but that's totally us and the best way to spend time together.
