This week has been slow in terms of doing. I have gone to school, worked a lot, and cooked a lot. I have not made any crafts or made any improvements to our apartment.
But, this week has been busy in terms of dreaming. I decided to change directions in my life and future entirely. I have about 14 different projects in my brain, all the time. It seems like this part of me -- the creative, the dreamer -- is finally on fire (after what feels like the longest rut). I'm excited for what's to come and I have BIG plans. I'm just hoping to finally carve out some time to make these things happen.
So, here's 5 Things I love this week:
1.This Hand-lettered wall on A Beautiful Mess is such a dream. I love that it looks textural and personal without being overwhelming. I'd love to use it to cover a large canvas too.

Finishing What You Start: I'm Done Unpacking
I moved to New Jersey aboouuuut a month ago. My family and I did most of the unpacking as soon as my belongings arrived. My clothes, books, furniture, and cooking utensils were unpacked within a matter of days. But, if you look at the background of our living room, you'd find boxes.
Starting is easy. Brainstorming, sketching out plans (literally and figuratively), starting is fun and exciting. But, its difficult to finish. I usually get 80% done with any given project before I get busy, become uninterested, etc. and I move onto something new.

Lazy Weekend
Don't you hate waking up late? It makes my entire day feel off, especially on days that I have to go to school. Keith and I used the snow as an excuse and had a very lazy weekend.
- We've been frequenting a local coffee shop for a treat to ourselves. Their dirty chai is amazing. We were heading to the grocery store after and coffee beans were on our list, so we decided to pick up a pound at the shop instead. The coffee is great, affordable, and local (even the beans are locally roasted).
- We experimented with breakfast foods and made mini quiches. We cracked three eggs, mixed in a bunch of chopped veggies, bacon crumbles, and some steamed spinach, the poured them into muffin tins (use lots of nonstick spray!). Baked at 375F for 20 minutes and voila! We ate them with salsa. Next time, we'll probably just serve the bacon on the side instead. I wish I had made more, they'd be really easy to pack as a school snack.
- We tried playing board games, but it can be pretty difficult to do with only us. Both Catchprhase and Pictionary were busts. Do you have any board games for pairs?
- I've been experimenting with green smoothie recipes. I'm bad at eating green, leafy vegetables, so smoothies are a great alternative for me. I usually drink a spinach, mango, pineapple smoothie, but wanted to try something different and switch up my greens. I used kale, cilantro, granny smith apple, and ginger but didn't really like it. I added some pineapple to it today and its better, but not great.

Investment
Last night I went to the city for dinner with a girl that Keith knows from high school and her roommate. They asked me about how I was adjusting to East Coast life, etc etc. I asked Rachel (the roommate) the same and she talked a lot about how her situation was so different than mine. She had always dreamed of living in New York, did a US student exchange here once, and even learning and discovering the city was so exciting because she was accomplishing her dream. Fast forward to later in the evening. Jen and I grabbed shamrock shakes at McDs (theyyy're backk!) after Rachel headed home. While talking, she mentioned that I seem uninvested.
Uninvested.
At first I shrugged it off; but, that word has been percolating in my mind since she mentioned it. Maybe she's right.
I've been having doubts about the direction my education is heading in. I've been withdrawn from opportunities to make friends. Its not a conscious decision that I've been making. Rather, its the easiest option. Its easy to stay in my apartment and dream about decorating. Its easy to go to the same coffee shop, grocery store, etc. Its easy to daydream about a different future.
Its hard to go to new places. Its hard to start conversations with your classmates. Its hard to begin new friendships. Its hard to invest in a future that you probably wouldn't have chosen if the circumstances were different.
So, to my list of goals for February, I add this challenge: to invest in this life. To talk to my classmates. To invite people that I know to do things with me. To put effort into this life, outside of my apartment walls.

New, New, Newness
As always, the new year is a time for reflection and anticipation. In March I left my job of 3.5 years and went somewhere new. I finally stood up for myself and sought out a better working environment. Over the summer, I turned 22, wrote a thesis about gendered differences in sexual expectations, and then graduated. Keith found out, finally, that his company had placed him in New Jersey: disbelief turned to sadness turned to planning. In September, I spent three weeks there. I explored (admittedly less than I had planned) but enough to catch a glimpse at the life that I, that we, could have there. While the prospect felt strange, while there I found places, already, that made me feel at home: walking along the waterfront, quiet with the wind on my face. So, the decision was made -- I was going to move to New Jersey. The last few months have been filled to the brim with planning, working, and spending time with friends and family. We celebrated holidays and finally, at the very end of the year, I was accepted to grad school.
Its hard to believe that its only been a few months. It feels like the conversations and worries and planning has been insurmountable. Its surreal that 2013 brings not only a new year, but a new state, a new place to call home, a new school to attend, new people to meet, new restaurants to frequent, and so much newness. In the midst of all this brand-spanking-newness, I've forgotten to recall the important things that remain the same: my family's enduring support, my wonderful friends that are always a phone call away, a partner to lean on and to share this experience with, and where my true homeplace always will be.
And so, here is what I resolve for this year: to be purposeful about meeting new people, unafraid to invite classmates to coffee or to join a kickball league. To maintain my new long distance relationships by making frequent phone calls, skype dates, and emails. To take lots of pictures. And to have confidence in my abilities.

Employment
Well, this week has been busy. Winding down after Thanksgiving, working more hours in preparation for the holidays, finishing Christmas shopping, dreaming up new products for my Etsy store, and working on a commissioned painting..... needless to say, I have been busy! I feel as though I haven't thought about moving, except for absentmindedly grabbing boxes from work, until late last night.
I'm having a really difficult time accepting that I will leave my job. I LOVE my work and my coworkers. I feel so much gratitude to have found a place where I feel so comfortable and happy to go to work. And, the truth is, I really don't want to leave it.
I feel so strongly about work, because I know how much it affects the quality of your life. I've previously worked in a less pleasant environment, with a less pleasant employer, and it really dragged me down. I wasn't excited to go to work and I felt stressed all the time: understandably since work takes up such a large percentage of your time. I'm terrified that I will end up in that situation again. Or that I won't be able to find a job.
All of this combined has led to me really dragging my feet re: job searching. I know that's the wrong attitude! I should be proactively looking for jobs; the sooner I start and the more thoroughly I look, the better my options will be, right?
