As I mentioned in my last post, our friend Tanvir visited last weekend from Toronto. It was great fun to play tourist and get out of our weekend rut -- Keith and I have spent too many weekends doing nothing but going to the grocery store and watching Downton Abbey.
The one thing that Tanvir really wanted to do was to see the Statue of Liberty. Since he was only here for the weekend, we just hopped on the Staten Island ferry. Its free and takes you right past the statue. I promise, it was much larger and lighter in person. Afterwords, we hopped on the subway and headed up to Times Square. We took pictures, took in the lights, and stopped into the Toys R Us. We walked past Radio City and Rockefeller Square before heading home.
Because our city has a great view of Manhattan, our friend was able to see the World Trade Center and the Empire State building from afar, so it felt like we got a good bit of touristy sights in in a little bit of time.
